FrankenSpeak: All the way, full-out: "An 18 karat idiot"
The leader of this "Clam-Bake" is clearly an all the way, full out NUT. We had the chance to sit down, behind-the-scenes, with the 18-Karat One.
Why build Rat Pack Live? It's a love for the music, plus I've got nothing better to do. So I sit in my one room flat with the windows covered listening to
Frank, Dean, Sammy and the guys -- I thought Wow! I can do this AND tease listeners too for FREE?!?! Where do I sign?
Who's you favorite member of The Rat Pack? I'm a huge fan of anything Rat Pack, but (hiding mouth with his hand, eyes darting back and forth) truthfully I think Bing Crosby has to be my all time favorite. But that's our secret right?
Any favorite listeners? We have listeners? Damn! I thought I was just talking to myself all the time... Sweet! Nah, one of my favorites is a guy in Indiana who constantly requests the same song
over and over, The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane, it always makes me laugh to tease him. I actually enjoy a number of the listeners, I like to refer to them as groupies -- or stalkers. Some of my favorites are the late night listeners who
tune in and have a vodka or two with me. The tough ones are the ones that ask song or artist questions, when was this sung, what album is that on, etc -- like I know anything about the music I play.
It's been rumored you sing all of the songs you play and that on a rare occasion you've been heard "crooning" on the station? (After turning and whispering with his attorney) On the advise of my counsel I'm going to take the fifth
on that question, except to say there have been some complaints of a dog howl sometimes mixed with the music -- we believe this to be a technical issue.
Do you ever wear any other color than black? There are other colors? Actually I'm wearing pink right now, care to see? I've been known to wear other colors of course, just the other day I had on dark gray.
To what do you attribute your fondness of this era and style of music? As a child I was forced to listen to Frank until my ears bled. We might be having a break-through here, it could be all my parents fault, I told them all I wanted was the sound track from Grease, but oh no... Yeah it's their fault! Seriously,
I'm a huge fan of music in general. I also am the driving force behind our sister station, RetroUrge, which plays all 80's music. I think music lifts the soul! Most people are often surprised to see the rather diverse collection of music in my CD library
I've got everything from classical to rap (as he starts humming Sir-Mix-Alot's Baby Got Back).
What's the goal for this station? To make me the millions I'm clearly worth, or alternately to introduce me to the future ex-Ms. 18KaratPete who is capable of keeping me in the lifestyle I'm used to. Honestly, it's already a success in my mind. The first time the station had a listener other than my family
it accomplished it's goal! Sure I'd love to see millions of people listening to the Rat Pack Live, but as long as one person listens it's all worth it!
More excerpts from our interview with 18KaratPete coming soon...
